Excellent overview. Thank you. Appreciate the reading list for more information as well. I’m curious. What is the average CEC ratings of productive Midwest soils vis-a-vis Brazilian soils. I was surprised to learn Brazilian soils are low in organic matter given my assumption they were once part of the Amazon. Keep up the good work Ariel.
This was a great breakdown. I think the biggest mistake people make is underestimating how much topsoil they actually need for a project. I usually just use topsoilcalconline.com/ to get the cubic yardage right before I head to the landscape supply. Saves a ton of headache and extra delivery fees.
A few years ago, I read a story in the magazine Nebraska Farmer about using cover crops. A farmer, working with the University of Nebraska had participated in a study from about 1982 to the present evaluating the efficacy of cover crops. They found that overall, using cover crops increased ROI by a few percent. I related that story to a friend who had grown up farming and asked him how many farmers would that convince to use cover crops. He scoffed, and snorted, "About 2%." Indeed, that was about the ratio of typical cover crop seed to corn and soybean seed for that year.
I do not envy you trying to break through that sort of mind set.
Here is an interview I did with James Corbett on Regenerative Agriculture that you may appreciate:

Thanks Gavin, I’ll check it out!

Thank you so much! I was surprised by that fact on relatively low organic matter in many Brazilian agricultural soils as well!
