I served on the marketing order for California avocados and you certainly speak true to the segment on MO's impacts to commodity marketing. I will admit, MO's are tricky to navigate given the large representation of growers its serving. It requires a balance among the different perspectives and initiatives

Wow that is awesome to hear, John! I am a huge fan of California avocados!

I'd be curious to learn from your firsthand experience how decisions are actually made and executed in the MO -- it sounds like it is difficult to balance the needs of larger growers/smaller growers; growers from different regions; not to mention the MOs that have both growers and handlers represented!

Hi Ariel,

Generally speaking the decisions are decided by board member who are usually growers or representatives of the producing district. There are handlers who represent the importers of the board, but majority of board members are growers.
